Boppa thought it would be a good idea for us to raise ducks. It would be a learning experience for the kids. I thought it would be a work experience for ME, but reluctantly agreed. Along came the incubator, then the eggs. 10 of them. People always ask where we got the eggs from... Ebay! I was concerned that there were TEN, but Dad said, "Don't worry, they won't all hatch." Well, one day, the hatching started. And kept going... NINE hatched! The kids named them Trey, Abigail, Mrs. Ducky, Fluffball, Max, Sara, Yellow, Boppa, and Gimpy. Gimpy was named that, because he needed help emerging from his egg, and we weren't sure if he was going to make it. They were cute and fluffy at first, but after two weeks, they were big and stinky! They lived outside during the day, and at night, they stayed in a big tub filled with animal bedding. About a week in, I arrived home, opened the back door, and saw a hawk flying up from near the duckies' hangout outside. Uh-oh! They ducks were hiding out under the deck, but we counted them... one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight... yep, Yellow had been eaten :( We set up a big outdoor tent for the next few days to protect the rest of them, but they kept getting out. We managed to keep the rest alive, and after two weeks, they went off to live at a pond by some friends. At last report, two more were gone, but there were still six.
